Who knew that trying to find out who the actual “Snaggletooth” alien was in the cantina would be so much trouble! Apparently there were two Snaggletooth aliens in the cantina when Luke and Ben arrived. But there is also the one from the Star Wars Holiday Special. Apparently the two from the film were brothers that go by the name Takeel and Zutton, who were of average height and had humpbacks and pretty much looked like twins. The Snaggletooth from the Holiday Special was a female named Zutmore, who was short and balding.
Adding to the confusion is the fact that the original vintage Kenner Snaggletooth figure was tall and wearing a blue suit with silver boots and was only available from an exclusive Sears playset, but was eventually switched out to the short figure wearing a red suit with clawed feet instead of boots, that eventually got single-carded for wide release. The tall, blue figure was based on black and white photos that Kenner used as reference so they guessed on the suit color. The short, red version was based on the Holiday Special Snaggletooth that wasn’t even in the original film! So much confusion for an alien that really didn’t get that much screen time. Honestly, they’re all just Snaggletooth to me. I mean, come on, Snaggletooth sounds way cooler than Takeel, Zutton or Zutmore. Who comes up with this crap. Anyway, I grew up with “Snaggletooth” so that’s what I’m stickin with… even 40 years later.
